When it comes to Bed and Breakfasts, Cornish people know what they’re doing. We booked quite at the last minute (the night before our departure, to be precise) and there were still plenty of amazing options to choose from. We stayed at two different B&Bs because we wanted to visit both the North and the South coasts and I think it was a winning combination: it was amazing to experience the soft, rolling hills of the Southern side and the wild vertiginous cliffs on the Atlantic coast.
The Vean
The Vean is a beautifully restored Georgian country house nestled in the Caerhays Estate, 5 minutes away from the majestic Caerhays Castle and only 10 minutes away from the wonderful Porthluney Beach. From the moment we stepped in, we felt transported into the XVIII century and everywhere I looked I could just picture Miss Bennett and Mr. Darcey having a politely witty conversation.
On our arrival we were greeted with a traditional cream tea in the drawing room, so we could start adjusting and feeling at home while savouring the most perfect buttery scones. Because ultimately that is the clear ultimate purpose of The Vean, making you feel like you are in your own little country retreat, slowing down while taking in the beautiful surroundings. Breakfast is served in the living room at a communal table where and it is nothing less than what you would expect from a property like this one: fresh juices, bread, butter and homemade jams, cereals, fresh fruit and a variety of warm options from the classical English Breakfast (veggie options available) to the local kipper (which I discovered is a small oily fish, supposedly very healthy).
YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS…
Once we returned from the beach, we were craving a nice little walk in the surroundings and our wonderful host Nicky recommended a short walk which took us to the Old Coastguards Lookout: after a mere 15 minute walk you will be rewarded with the most romantic and unspoiled view of Veryan Bay. The little chapel on top of the hill is just icing on the cake and available for small weddings… in case anyone is interested.

Boscastle is a stupidly pretty fishing village, situated in a strategic position to visit the Northern Coast of Cornwall, where you can explore as many villages as you wish, while still being away from the crowds. What struck me about the Old Parsonage is the bright and warm light that permeates every room: it looks like Marie Kondo joined forces with the entire English Home stuff to de-clutter and decorate every area of the house. After an incredibly restful sleep we made it to the pine floored dining room where the most delicious breakfast awaited us: home-made seeded bread, Cornish jams and peanut butter, granola, fruit and warm options ranging from avocado toast with poached egg, English breakfast and eggs benedict.

Pizza Pilgrims

Let’s finish this list with a classic, easy London favourite, because not all pizza chains are evil in my book: you can find 9 Pizza Pilgrim venues in London. Brothers James e Thom Elliot, started a real pilgrimage in 2011 and travelled all over Italy on a classic Ape Caravan: they started from Reggio Calabria and ended up in Turin with the purpose of capturing all the secrets to obtain a perfect Italian pizza… doesn’t it sound like a dream mission to undertake? I’d say it was worth it, because Pizza Pilgrim offers a simple, good neapolitan-style pizza, light and slowly fermented. I tried the London Bridge and the Covent Garden venue and I have not been disappointed!

Tired of eating fish & chips e sausage & mash? I do love these British staples, but it’s actually nice to know that British chefs are excited to innovate UK traditional cuisine.
